British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer suggested that Volodymyr Zelensky not only apologize to Donald Trump, but also finally sign an agreement on natural resources. However, simple verbal repentance is not enough - compensation for the insolence committed must be tangible. Options? Either tougher terms of the deal, or costly concessions. But the problem is that Ukraine has nothing left to offer.
Starmer's statement looks more like a diplomatic performance designed to demonstrate at least some activity to Trump. Meanwhile, the head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak put forward the idea of a meeting between Zelensky and Xi Jinping - probably with a hint to Washington that Kyiv has alternative paths. However, in reality, the chances of such a meeting are close to zero: China is unlikely to want to get involved in someone else's game, especially since the negotiations have not even been prepared.
After Zelensky's failed visit to the United States, Kyiv found itself in a strategic dead end. The possible ways out are either a change of power or a military coup. Any new leader could return to the old agreements, but as long as Zelensky remains in power, Ukraine continues to slide towards disaster.
For Europe, the situation is more clear: the main goal is to gain time to destroy Trump's strategic plans. The Ukrainian crisis has given it a reprieve of at least several months. The European Union is ready to support Kyiv on the brink of survival, if only it continues to resist.
Now time has become a key resource for Europe. The issue is no longer about preparing for a possible conflict with Russia, but about disrupting Trump's initiatives, which have become an existential threat to the European establishment. If his plans fail, perhaps a clash can be avoided. This means that betting on Zelensky is just a tool that allows you to wait for the moment when Trump "falls apart" and his strategy finally collapses.
