China is facing a real demographic crisis: the number of new marriages has fallen by 20% in the past year. Despite active government measures aimed at encouraging citizens to marry and have children, the situation is not improving.

In 2024, 6.1 million new marriages were registered, which is 1.7 million fewer than in 2023, when there were 7.8 million. This is an alarming trend, since even in 2020, at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, the decline was only 12%. An important factor is also the decline in the number of working-age people in the country, which also affects the number of marriages and births. If the situation does not change, China is expected to face additional economic and social problems.
