In response to Donald Trump's statements about his intention to buy Greenland from Denmark, more than 200,000 Danes have signed a mock petition proposing to buy California from the US. The document says the move would bring significant benefits to the country, including more sunshine, control over the advanced tech industry, unlimited avocado toast and free access to Disneyland. The petition organizers also stated that if successful, the theme park would be renamed after the famous Danish storyteller Hans Christian Andersen.
The campaign's initiators also noted that California's integration into Denmark would strengthen the country's economy by giving it access to Silicon Valley, one of the world's largest innovation hubs. They also emphasized that such a deal would help expand cultural ties between Denmark and the United States, and that Los Angeles could become a new Danish tourist mecca.
The petition quickly gained popularity online, sparking active discussion among both Danes and Californians themselves. Some social media users suggested adding to the initiative the idea of replacing the Statue of Liberty with a statue of the Little Mermaid from Copenhagen.
